Try to understand where I’m coming from,
Reserved lands for my Nation in the swamp.
A slow death of a dying breed,
On tough land for us to grow our seed.
Been ignored for way too long,
While the government got to sing their song.
A National anthem that celebrates the reasons that are wrong, For me to take a knee.
And protest your hypocrisy,
Unfulfilled contracts signed with me!
From the beginning to eternity,
A better life for my kids to see.
The day we’re treated properly or equally.
Terrified of your punishment,
From your bullying government.
Band Council settlements, land-claim embezzlements,
While we’re considered irrelevant,
To profit your establishment.
My People caged-in imprisonment,
For protecting environment.
You’ll be sorry when that money’s spent,
From your resource development.
You paved a long road of damnation,
Destruction is your occupation.
Long pipes of penetration,
Into lands of the First Nations.
We are not complacent,
And won’t tolerate your violation.
We ran out of patience,
Respect your obligations,
Consult and accommodations.
Violent implications,
Without allowing you liberation.
From a stand-off altercation,
Continual preparation,
To end your environmental occupation.
