about

Red Dress Christmas is a song about the difficulties of celebrating the Christmas Holidays after you have lost your Mother, Wife, Sister or Daughter to violent crimes. There are over 4000 Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women across Turtle Island and this sore celebration is the reality for far too many Indigenous families. Instead of singing about a “Merry Christmas”, this song’s chorus cries for “Mary” to come home, Mary representing the women who are missing. Emmanuel Alias and Méta are featured on this song to add to the choir effects that are commonly heard in any Christmas carol. It is important that we remember these women and their families during the holidays.

lyrics

Mary come home for Christmas
Baby come home, baby come home
Mary come home for Christmas
Baby come home, baby come home

I kiss your head and I put you to bed
While you dream of Santa’s sled
Hang the stocking by the fireplace
With that Innocent smile on your face
I miss you
Yeah
I miss you

Mary come home for Christmas
Baby come home, baby come home
Mary come home for Christmas,
Baby come home, baby come home

I hang a red dress in the stockings place
And I dream about your beautiful face
I can’t see that Christmas tree
You’re not here with me

Mary come home for Christmas
Baby come home, baby come home
Mary come home for Christmas
Baby come home, baby comes home
